Nutritional Testing

Stop guessing.
Start knowing.

Most people taking supplements are guessing. They buy what the marketing says, not what their body actually needs. A nutritional blood test tells you exactly where your deficiencies lie — so you can supplement precisely, not randomly.

  • Vitamin D — deficient in over 40% of UK adults, especially in winter months
  • Iron and ferritin — the most common nutritional deficiency, causing fatigue and brain fog
  • Vitamin B12 — essential for nerve function, energy and mental clarity
  • Folate — critical for DNA repair, cardiovascular health and mood regulation
  • Zinc — immune function, skin health and hormone production
  • Magnesium — involved in over 300 biochemical reactions; widely deficient

Key Nutrients

The nutrients most likely
to be missing.

In the UK, these three deficiencies account for the majority of fatigue, mood and immune complaints we test for.

Vitamin D

The UK’s most common deficiency. Optimal levels (75–200 nmol/L) are associated with better immune function, mood, muscle health and reduced cancer risk. Testing is the only way to know your level — and the right dose to supplement.

Iron & Ferritin

Iron deficiency without anaemia is widely underdiagnosed — particularly in women and athletes. Low ferritin causes fatigue, hair loss and brain fog even when standard iron markers appear normal.

Vitamin B12

B12 deficiency develops slowly and is often attributed to stress or ageing before the blood picture is checked. Vegans, those on metformin and people with gut issues are particularly at risk.

Common Questions

Common questions

Do I need to fast before a nutritional blood test?
Some markers (such as iron, glucose and triglycerides) benefit from fasting for 8–12 hours before the draw. We’ll send you specific preparation instructions when you book based on your chosen panel.
I already take supplements. Should I stop before testing?
If you want to know your ‘true’ baseline, stop fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) for 3–7 days before testing. For B vitamins, you can test while supplementing to check whether your dosing is effective.
My GP said my B12 is ‘normal’. Why do I still have symptoms?
‘Normal’ B12 ranges are set very low in the UK (>180 pg/mL). Many functional medicine practitioners consider the optimal range to be 400–900 pg/mL. We report both ranges so you can see where you actually sit.
Can nutritional deficiencies cause depression and anxiety?
Yes. Iron, vitamin D, B12, folate, magnesium and omega-3 status all have direct and well-documented links to mood regulation. Addressing deficiencies is often part of a comprehensive mental health support plan.
How long before I feel better after correcting a deficiency?
Vitamin D levels typically improve within 6–8 weeks of adequate supplementation. B12 and ferritin improvements are often felt within 4–6 weeks. Retesting at 3 months confirms your levels have moved into optimal range.
